AACC Lady Pioneers Triumph 4-0 in Opening Soccer Match

In the Pioneers' home-game season opener, they controlled the field.

The following article was submitted to the Broadneck Patch by Duane Herr, who works with the athletics department at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC).

Anne Arundel women’s soccer played their 2012 home opener on Sunday in a noon contest against Lackawanna College from Pennsylvania.

The Pioneers are a young squad returning two players from last year’s team with four overall sophomores.

On Sunday AACC took control early and kept it. Despite not scoring in the first half the Pioneers offense dominated the ball, firing off several shots. In the second half Pioneer sophomore Meghenn Jackson broke the ice scoring the first goal of the game.

With the first goal out of the way AACC added three more. Sophomore Alexa Couture netted a goal, Jackson scored a second goal and freshman Katrina Chao found the net to cap off the scoring.

Lackawanna’s offense made some late runs but the Pioneers defense denied them a goal. Anne Arundel goalie Chelsea Clark-Ames made some great saves throughout the game to earn the shut out.

Anne Arundel women’s soccer has a five day break before playing back to back games Sept. 15 and 16. Both games will be played at Howard Community College with Saturday’s game against Middlesex County College at 11 a.m. and Sunday’s against Essex County College at 1:30 p.m.
