An Annapolis High School track star has beaten a local Olympian's record in the 3200-meter run by more than 20 seconds.
At an Anne Arundel County indoor track championship meet on Tuesday, Annapolis High senior Hale Bullen ran the 3200 meters in 9:18.01 seconds—topping Olympian Matthew Centrowitz's former meet record of 9:40.80.
According to an email from Annapolis High, during the race Hale lapped the entire field and received a last lap standing ovation.
Centrowitz, a graduate of Broadneck High School, was just four hundredths of a second away from a bronze medal in the finals for men's 1,500-meter race at the summer Olympics.
