Arnold Council Names New President, Bids Former Farewell

Lucy Iliff received a goodbye gift of a tree to be planted on the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail.

Longtime president of the Arnold Preservation Council Lucy Iliff was replaced by Elizabeth Rosborg at the group's Monday meeting.

At their first meeting of 2012, the board elected a new president and board of directors.

Iliff is a founding member of the council, and has served on it for more than 12 years. She was replaced as president by Rosborg, who recently resettled back in Arnold after extensive military travel with her family.

Iliff was presented with a small tree, which will be planted on the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail at the Old Joyce Station site.

Iliff said she was proud to have served as president during her time, but was looking forward to having a little more time to herself by passing the title to Rosborg.

Rosborg said she has some big shoes to fill as president, but her family has a heritage of leadership in Arnold.

"I am looking forward to carrying on the tradition first started by my grandfather, Commander William Berry, and then my mother, Elizabeth Morrison, to preserve Arnold and continue the community aspect where you know your neighbors and feel safe raising your children," Rosborg said in a press release. "Our prime location requires active community involvement, and I look forward to working hard with each and every neighbor."

Along with Rosborg's new title, five other board of director seats were changed. Sage Mumma was named vice president; Sue Ricciardi was named treasurer; Alberta Strornetta was named recording secretary; and Steve Darroch and Robin Atkins were named named members at large.

The council meets monthly to discuss ongoing issues relating to growth in Arnold, and develop a plan to preserve the area's character. As a member of the Growth Action Network, they are linked with a number of other community groups advocating small-town preservation.

The next meeting of the council is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at a location to be determined later.
