Broadneck Girls Softball Team Wins Eastern National Tourney

The 12U girls Broadneck Eagles beat the Severna Park Green Hornets 11-6 in the championship match.

A group of 12-year-old girls took home a huge trophy last weekend after winning first place in an eastern national tournament.

The Broadneck Eagles 12U girls softball team were the eastern national champions in the Maryland Amateur Softball Association (ASA) tournament. Severna Park's 12U girls team took second place.

The Eagles went 5-0 in the tournament, and at the climax of the games, beat the Severna Park Green Hornets by 11-6 in the championship match on July 22 in Centreville.

It was the ending to a great season for the Eagles, who placed third in the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Tournament the previous weekend.

The team's manager Melissa Wilson told Patch that it was an intense session of games, but the girls performed well under the pressure.

"For it being for it being our first tournament, we did great," Wilson said. "These girls were very excited. They did a great job and we're all very proud of them."

Congratulations to the Broadneck Eagles for a great year!
