At a community meeting in Cape St. Claire on Monday, Broadneck High School Principal David Smith spoke about the history behind the area commonly known as The Pit, where students congregate off of school property.
Smith said the area's notoriety predates him becoming principal in 2008, but it wasn't always located at the intersection behind the school's parking lot.
He also describes the circumstances surrounding the enforcement of the area, and how his hands are largely tied without the community becoming more involved.
