Centrowitz Advances to Olympic Medal Finals

With a time of 3:34.90, Centrowitz will compete for a gold medal on Tuesday.

Arnold's Matthew Centrowitz brought the heat to the men's semifinals in the 1,500-meter run, placing fifth and qualifying for the medal race on Tuesday.

Minutes after his race, Centrowitz posted to Twitter saying he was moving closer to his Olympic dreams.

"One step closer to my dreams!!! #London2012 I have the best family/friends/supporters/fans," Centrowitz wrote.

In the semifinals on Sunday, Centrowitz earned fifth with a time of 3:34.90—one tenth of a second later than the fourth-place runner, Nixon Kiplimo Chepseba of Kenya.

The Arnold runner's time also was six seconds faster than his preliminary run on Friday, and faster than when he placed third in the world championships in 2011 with a time of 3:36.08.

The finals for the 1,500-meter run will be at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Here were the times for the men's second heat in Sunday afternoon's race:

1 Abdalaati Iguider (Morocco) 3:33.99
2 Silas Kiplagat (Kenya) 3:34.60
3 Nicholas Willis (New Zealand) 3:34.70
4 Nixon Kiplimo Chepseba (Kenya) 3:34.89
