Get a Taste of Mother's Federal Hill Grille This Weekend

The restaurant and bar owner tells Patch about his plans for the new Arnold location.

The upcoming restaurant and bar announced a pre-construction party, featuring food samples and live music on its billboard along Ritchie Highway and its Twitter account on Thursday.

Restaurant owner Dave Rather told Patch he chose Arnold as the location of his second Mother's restaurant because he lives nearby and feels the market is ripe for another Mother's.

"I live in Pasadena, my kids play Green Hornet sports," Rather said. "We really like the area—it's close to home, and we feel it's a good demographic. There's not a lot of night life there, so we think we can really add to it."

The restaurant's Baltimore location is known for its Purple Patio, where Baltimore Ravens fans gather to watch big games. However, Rather said the Arnold location probably won't have its own patio counterpart, but will definitely cater to football fans.

"Obviously the Ravens are our team, but we'll also have room for Redskins fans," he said.

Sunday's pre-construction party will feature a buffet with choice menu items, and live music from Dave's brother, and Mother's chef, Adam Rather and his band, "Soul Island Rebels."

"This is a chance to see what we're going to do, to try a couple of different things from our menu, and have a good time," Rather said.

He said he plans to open the restaurant and sports bar in the fall. The former Griffin's Grill will be renovated and modified to suit Rather's new designs for the building.

Among the changes will be a new LED light sign, new carpet and hardwood floors, new windows and a new, vaulted ceiling for the dining area.

"We want to add some light and airiness to the building, make it more inviting," Rather said.

Mother's is now hiring in preparation for its second location. For more information, visit the restaurant's official website.
