Get Out: Bargain Hunting Abounds This Weekend

From home remodeling to fine dining, bargains await local residents.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

1.  Annapolis Home and Remodeling Expo

When/Where:  Sat. – Sun., Feb. 26-27; 10 a.m. – 7 p.m; at the Annapolis National Guard Armory.

Why Go: Over 100 companies will showcase a variety of remodeling options that deal with kitchen and bath, decking and fencing, countertops and tile, heating and air and more. Celebrities appearing at the show this weekend include: Tom Silva from This Old House and Summer Baltzar from HGTV.

Price: Adults $6; kids 8-12 $5; active and retired military $4.

2.  Third Annapolis Restaurant Week

When/Where:  Feb. 21-27; Lunch and dinner; Click here for a list of participating restaurants. 

Why Go:  Sponsored by the Annapolis Business Association, this annual event allows guests to visit dozens of local Annapolis area restaurants, from Cantler’s to Yellowfin, to enjoy lunch and dinner at bargain prices.

Price: The cost once again this year is $15.95 for a three-course lunch and $29.95 for a three-course dinner.

3.  Saltwater Fishing Expo  

When/Where:  Sat., Feb. 26, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., Annapolis Elks Lodge 622, 2517 Solomon's Island Rd. in Edgewater.

Why Go:  Discuss the thrill of the catch at this fishing tackle show and seminar series, with guests who discuss tuna, stripers, and rockfish. You can also shop for the latest gear at great prices from local tackle dealers.

Price: Admission is $5 per person. Kids 14 and under are free.

4.  Severn School presents Footloose 

When/Where:  Fri. and Sat., Feb. 25-26, 7:30 p.m., at the Severn School Price Auditorium. 

Why Go:  Based on the hit film, singing and dancing tells this classic tale of teen rebellion and repression. The show is directed by locally known Sharie Valerio, with musical direction by Laurie Hays.

Price: Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, and $10 for all others. Email tickets@severnschool.com or call 410-647-7701 ext. 2777 to reserve your seats.

5.  Entertainment at Griffin’s 

When/Where:  Fri. and Sat., 8:30 p.m., Arnold Griffin’s Grill on Ritchie Hwy. in Arnold.

Why Go: This weekend’s live entertainment features Nautical Wheeler on Friday and Susan Souza on Saturday. Nautical Wheeler describe their style as “Trop Rock” and island music (think Jimmy Buffett) but they also perform a variety of other styles from country to classic rock (Eagles/Crosby Stills Nash & Young, etc.).  Souza plays a mix of acoustic, indie and rock.
