Man Gets No Bond in Attempted Murder Case
A trial for Robert Benscoter is scheduled for Aug. 7 in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.
A man charged with attempting to kill his mother with a hammer in March was denied bond at a Friday court hearing.
Robert Nolan Benscoter, 33, of the 1300 block of Hazel Nut Court in Annapolis near Cape St. Claire, was charged with second-degree murder after an incident on March 20 where police say he assaulted his 61-year-old mother with a hammer. The woman survived the assault.
Police said that when they arrived, Benscoter had fled the home and led police on an extensive manhunt involving K-9 and air units. He was later found in a wooded area near Commanders Way.
Benscoter's bond was revoked on Friday after a court hearing, where his mother said she feared he may retaliate if he is released on his own recognizance, The Capital reported.
Benscoter's trial is scheduled for Aug. 7 in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.
