New Verizon Cell Tower Proposed at BHS

The tower is intended to address poor reception for Cape St. Claire residents.

Are you a Verizon wireless customer in Cape St. Claire with bad cell service? Things are looking up for you.

A 130-foot wireless pole is proposed to be erected this year at Broadneck High School to accommodate Verizon Wireless and four additional carriers, according to a plan reviewed by the school board this month.

"Verizon Wireless (VZW) is addressing a gap in wireless service coverage and capacity in the Cape St. Claire community. Upon evaluating siting alternatives, VZW has identified the Broadneck High School site as its primary candidate for a cellular site," according to the document.

The tower will be built between the athletics field and the practice field near 80-feet tall light posts as a way to diminish the visual impact. The tower will hold up to five carriers in addition to lights for the practice field, according to the document.

In February, a building permit will be sought. If it is successful, construction will begin in accordance with the high school's athletics program schedule.

Broadneck also has really poor reception. We have to go outside to use cell phone. If we move an inch we miss all kinds of conversation. Does anyone else in Broadneck have this problem? We had to buy router extenders for our Verizon internet so we could stop that from going in and out. We are really sorry we switched to Verizon.

Oh great. That is exactly what young minds need. Lots of EMFs radiating their young brains. Ugh.
