The Republican State Central Committee of Anne Arundel County released a statement late Thursday night regarding the boat accident that occurred in Pasadena on Wednesday evening.
The accident involved Del. Don Dwyer (R-Pasadena) and former Central Committee member John Moran. At a press conference on Thursday, Dwyer admitted that he had been drinking prior to the crash that injured seven people including some children.
Committee Chairman Alan Rzepkowski released the following statement on behalf of the central committee.
"First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those injured in the accident and their families, particularly as we await information on the welfare of the children involved. Many questions still remain after Delegate Dwyer's statements, but we appreciate the candidness of his remarks and expect that more answers will be forthcoming in the near future. In the meantime, we are grateful to the local residents and emergency responders for their quick response to this tragedy, which resulted in the safe rescue of all nine people involved."
The accident occurred on the Magothy River near Gibson Island about 7 p.m. on Wednesday, when Dwyer's boat collided with another boat on the river. Patch was on the scene of the accident.
During his press conference on Thursday, Dwyer said he was drinking while operating his boat before the crash.
"It's also been reported that my blood alcohol content was 0.2," he said. "No one, no one should be drinking and operating a motor vehicle or power boat. I deeply regret my actions and ask for forgiveness from the public."
