UPDATED: Victims of Fatal Head-On Collision in Deale Identified

Two people were killed and one was flown to Shock Trauma with serious injuries.

Update (6:50 p.m.)—The victims of a fatal head-on collision in Deale on Saturday morning have been identified by the Anne Arundel County Police Department (AACPD).

Sara Cassidy, 32, the driver of one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead upon arrival by paramedics, according to a release from AACPD.

The driver of the other vehicle, Janice Hollabaugh, 43, was trapped and had to be extricated by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel. The front-seat passenger of Hollabaugh's vehicle, Frances Shyrock-Hesson, 61, was ejected during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hollabaugh was transported by helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center and was in stable condition as of 6:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the press release.

The crash is still under investigation, but authorities said they believe Cassidy's vehicle drove off the right side of the road into grass. She then over-corrected and drove into the westbound lane, striking Hollabaugh's vehicle head-on, according to the release. It is unknown if excessive speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, the release stated.

The crash occurred sometime before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Maryland Route 258 and Rockhold Creek Road in Deale. When police arrived, they found a green Lexus and a black Honda had collided head-on.

One victim had been ejected from a vehicle, and the other two were pinned inside a vehicle, according to Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Glenn Shanahan.

Traffic on MD 258 was shut down in both directions while the investigation continues, Shanahan said.

Stay tuned for more updates on this breaking story.

Editor's Note: This article has been adjusted to show the incident occurred at Rockhold Creek Road in Deale, MD.

I think if you'll double check, you'll find that the name of the road was Rockhold Creek Road, not Rock Creek Road.

No Melissa, police won't release the names of those killed until they can assure that "next of kin" have all been contacted about the incident. We're still waiting on that information from the police department.

Natasha, I'm sorry for your loss. The 20-year-old was from preliminary information, and the article was updated after we had more accurate information. See my post below for details.

I may be incorrect but it seems after more info was released there was no 20 year old involved. It sounds like the woman who wds flown out was 43. Is this correct? Because everyone is asking about a 20 year old that was earlier reported.

Karen and Natasha, the preliminary information we received indicated a 20 year old was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma. But once the full information was available, no one aged 20 was involved. Here are the names and ages of all victims involved in this crash:

Frances Shyrock-Hesson, 61
Sara Cassidy, 32
Janice Hollabaugh, 43

Thoughts and prayers go out to both families... I'm not an expert but it sounds like another case of distracted driving. Very sad...

Maybe a little early for alcohol related. My vote is texting or talking, just as deadly. I get that folks don't like to be told what to do but really, how any more deaths have to occur before Big Brother steps in hard? Maybe this horrible crash had nothing to do with either talk or text, but I have had to avoid those distracted drivers more frequently lately, and it doesn't seem to be confined to any one demographic. Whatever the cause of this heartbreaking event, the families left behind need our prayers and understanding once the facts come out. After all, they are the victims as well.

Janet is in ICU at PG Hospital/Cheverly. She had surgery last night and I'm not sure of the extent of her injuries. She will be allowed visitors later today - a good sign. Thank God.

Sara was a gentle beautiful woman who loved her daughters, and had a special bond with her father. She loved to read, help others, and find the best in everyone she met. I am so sad for her family and for her darling girls. I do hope a fund will be established in her memory.

I went by the name dj RockinRodney when saras sister and I dated many years ago. And she was 1 of the most happy people you could ever meet. If any1 ever deserves to be a angel. It would be sara. And she will be the best angel god could ever ask for. I have not seen them for a long time but I'm very sad for all.

This may possibly be a bit off the subject, but whenever I hear of someone being ejected from a car, I have to wonder if that person was wearing a seatbelt. I don't know if that was the case in this incident, but it's just a reminder that seatbelts do save lives and it takes only seconds to use it. Quite recently a PG County police officer was ejected from his car in an accident involving a high speed chase and he also lost his life. I am of the opinion that wearing a seatbelt makes it very unlikely to be ejected in even a serious accident.
