Undefeated Pioneers Close Season with Back-to-Back Wins

AACC's women's lacrosse team finished their season Tuesday with a victory over Howard Community College.

’s women's lacrosse team closed their regular season with back-to-back wins against Harford Community College and Howard Community College.

With the two victories, the Pioneers completed their perfect regular season finishing undefeated with a final record of 16-0 overall and 8-0 in the Maryland Junior College conference.

On Tuesday evening, top-ranked AACC traveled to Harford Community College for a 5 p.m. conference match up against the seventh-ranked Owls. The game was notched at 3-3 for much of the first half but the Pioneers finished the first half with five unanswered goals to take an 8-3 lead. Led by Mary Milligan’s seven goals in the game, AACC women's lacrosse cruised to a 16-8 victory over Harford.

Milligan also added an assist in the game. Karlee Zywusko scored four goals and had an assist for the Pioneers while Meghenn Jackson scored twice with one assist. Nina Herron scored once and facilitated two assists. Katie Cox also scored two goals and Erika Arrildt earned one assist. Goalkeeper Brittany Kincer was tough between the pipes stopping 15 shots.

Just a day later on April 25, the Pioneers found themselves back on the road headed to eighth-ranked Howard for a 4 p.m. contest. AACC’s offense was potent and proved to be too much for Howard as the Pioneers easily won 19-3.

Freshman Jackson led AACC’s offense scoring eight goals. Karlee Zywusko added four goals and Milligan scored two goals and earned two assists. Herron, Morgan Fowler, Jordyn Childress, Katie Cox and Sam Adams each scored a goal for the Pioneers. Cox also had one assist and Arrildt assisted two goals in the game. The Pioneer defense and goalie Kincer limited Howard to three goals while Kincer earned five saves.

With the regular season behind them, AACC women’s lax will look towards the Region 20 Tournament that will be hosted by Anne Arundel. The Pioneers have earned the top seed for the May 5 and 6 tournament, and their opponent for Saturday is to be determined.

The first- and second-place teams in the Region Tournament will earn a trip to the 2012 National Championship, May 12 and 13 at Monroe Community College.
