Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra Concert
The Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra, America’s premier ragtime orchestra, will present a concert of ragtime, theatre, and dance music Friday March 15th, at 7:00 PM at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Arnold, MD, celebrating their director’s ten year anniversary of performing ragtime music.
Director Andrew Greene is celebrating ten years of performing ragtime music, along with five years of directing ragtime ensembles - two years with the Broadneck High School Ragtime Ensemble, and three with his Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra. He has performed ragtime on solo piano and with ensemble in several states, and has been invited to music festivals such as the Central Pennsylvania Ragtime Festival multiple times. The show will also celebrate the Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra’ third birthday.
Their concert will feature selections of ragtime music by composers such as John Philip Sousa, Irving Berlin, James Reese Europe, Eubie Blake, Stephen Foster, Wilbur C. Sweatman, Scott Joplin, and others. All of the selections will be performed off the original period orchestral arrangements.
Joining the orchestra will be pianist Frederick Hodges, of California. Hailed by the press as one of the best jazz and ragtime pianists in the world, Frederick Hodges is sought after by today’s foremost orchestras, festivals, conductors, and collaborative musicians. His artistry, virtuosity and charisma have brought him to the world’s most renowned stages, leaving audiences around the globe captivated. He is the pianist with Don Neely’s Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, and regularly performs for ragtime festivals and other events. This will mark his second performance with the Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra.
Based in Annapolis, Maryland, the Peacherine Ragtime Orchestra recreates a turn-of-the-last-century orchestra, and has received high praise for presenting ragtime, theater, dance, and silent film music from the early twentieth century. Their first CD, “That Teasin’ Rag”, released in 2011, has been called one of the most satisfying ragtime music collections available.
Tickets for the concert celebration are $20 per person and are sold online at http://www.peacherineragtime.com/events.htm . Tickets will also be available at the door.
More About Gloria DEI! Lutheran Church
In November of 1981, a group of worshippers met at Anne Arundel Community College, and the result was the creation of Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church on College Parkway at Jones Station Road. Nearly 30 years later, this active congregation sponsors a variety of mission programs, including a community food pantry, Chores and More, a counseling center, programs for youth, and outreach to countries like Slovakia and El Salvador. Music is heard often throughout the building, with children's, youth, and adult choruses, as well as a handbell choir.
