Friends Foundation Too Corn Hole Tournament Raises $1K for Hospice of the Chespeake

More than 25 teens from Broadneck High School and Magothy River Middle School, members of theFriends Foundation Too, held a Corn Hole Tournament raising $1,000 for Hospice of the Chesapeake, whose mission is to assist patients and their families living with advanced illness.  It was the first of its kind for the organization, a division of the Friends Foundation of Annapolis.

           “We have done "hands-on” type projects before and the teens wanted to plan something that would appeal to their friends, be fun, and benefit the community.  They all enjoy competition and this idea was hatched. They did all the planning and team recruiting,” said Traci Boone, founder of the Friends Foundation.  The group realized they all knew of someone, a family member or friend, who had been served by Hospice of the Chesapeake.

“They hear their parents express appreciation for the incredible care received from the staff.  The kids felt like this was a way to say thank you,” Boone said.

Having young people support the efforts of the nonprofit was recognized by Michael S. McHale, President and CEO of Hospice of the Chesapeake.  “Their compassion and understanding of our work is truly gratifying. Having young people help raise funds to support Hospice of the Chesapeake’s mission of providing compassionate care to those suffering with life-limiting conditions shows a lot of character at a young age,” he said.
