Volunteers Plant Trees at St. Margaret's

Recently, over 45 volunteers from age 3 to 83 from St. Margaret’s Church and the Annapolis community gathered on the church's campus plant 180 trees on the Church campus.

Both larger trees and seedlings of oaks, sycamore, maple, redbud, pine and other species were planted.  Tree tubes and fencing were installed to protect the trees from deer until they are well established.
“Trees are miracles of creation and provide us with so many benefits," said Al Todd, Director of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and the Chair of St. Margaret’s Environmental Mission team. “They filter our air and water, reduce runoff,  provide homes for wildlife, save us energy as well as provide us with inspiration and beauty.”

The tree planting is just one part of the church’s efforts to green its operations and facilities and help its congregation learn about actions needed to protect the Bay and its rivers.

This project is one of over 30 tree planting efforts being sponsored by the Alliance and the Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake over the coming year in partnership with Maryland Churches and supported by the MD Department of Natural Resources.
