Cape Resident to Compete on 'Jeopardy!'

Dr. Jay Rhee's episode is scheduled to air Monday at 7 p.m.

The answer: He’s wanted to be on Jeopardy! ever since competing in College Bowl and finally had his chance.

The question: Who is Dr. Jay Rhee?

Rhee, a medical oncologist at Anne Arundel Medical Center, took his shot at testing his knowledge on one of the grandest scales. And, for now, only he and his wife know how he did.

Rhee taped his episode of Jeopardy! in March and the Cape St. Claire couple has had to be tight-lipped about how he did.

“And it’s killing me,” Kimberly Rhee said. “You can tell people that you were on and when your episode will air and that’s it.”

But soon the suspense will be over when his episode airs Monday at 7 p.m.

“This has been a dream of his since college,” she said. “Some of his friends had been on.”

She said her husband tried out once before, but wasn’t picked to appear on the game show. He decided to try again.

That meant taking an online test that has timed questions. Perform well enough, you get invited to a mock competition.

Do well there and you get the call to meet the big man—Alex Trebek.

Jay Rhee then took his second test. Competed in the mock game.

And then nothing for 20 months, his wife said. He even signed up to try out a third time.

Then he got the call.

How did he do? We’re going to have wait until Monday to find out.
