Centenarian Celebrates Birthday at FutureCare

Eckardt celebrated her 100th birthday party at FutureCare in Arnold with friends and family. She has been a resident there since 2007.

Isabel "Izzy" Ruth Rodgers Eckardt recently became FutureCare Chesapeake's newest centenarian.

Eckardt celebrated her 100th birthday party at FutureCare in Arnold with friends and family. She has been a resident there since 2007. She also received two proclamations, one from Gov. Martin O'Malley, and one from Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates Michael Busch.

Isabel Ruth Rodgers is the daughter of the late Walter C. and Mary [Lowry] Rodgers, and the youngest of 10 children. Isabel was a 1930 graduate of Coatesville High School and a 1934 graduate of the Hahnemann Hospital School of nursing, in Philadelphia. She was a registered nurse at Hahnemann Hospital and then she married George Eckardt in 1937. In 1987, George and Isabel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  George died in Doylestown, PA. in 1996, at age 85.   

Isabel was a committee member of the Republican party of Bucks County, PA, a member of the Bucks County Council of Republican Women, the National Federation of Republican Women, the Bucks County Historical Society, and was a founding member of the Hilltown Civic Association.  She also did volunteer work at the Mercer Museum gift shop.  Isabel was also one of the founding members of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hilltown, PA. and has remained an active member since  its founding in 1953.

Isabel has two sons, George R. Eckardt of Palm Desert, CA and Robert A. Eckardt of Pasadena; three grandchildren—Kristi, of Boston, MA, Scott and his wife Season, of Auburn, CA, and Kerri and her husband Jeff, of San Francisco; and great-granddaughters, August, Saige, and Greta Jane. 

After leaving her farm in Hilltown, PA in 2002, she resided at New Seasons Assisted Living in Chalfont, PA and in 2006 moved to Severna Park, to be closer to her family. In 2007, Izzy moved to FutureCare Chesapeake nursing home and has lived there for the last six years.
