Family Reunites With Cat Nearly 2 Years After Disappearance

The cat found the family after they moved across town.

After nearly two years of being separated from their cat, a family in Cape St. Claire stumbled upon their furry friend after moving across town.

In 2011, Fluffy vanished from the Gehring household. He was known to go outside, but would always return. The family of five was devastated. They had known Fluffy since he was born.

The three youngest family members, ages 8 and 5, were reassured by their parents that Fluffy would be back soon. But after a few months, talk of Fluffy passed into bedtime stories.

"We had a ton of Fluffy adventure stories. I would tell them the places  he'd been, the things he had been up to," said Christina Gehring. "They'd illustrate fluffy adventure stories. We never stopped talking about him."

Then, on Thursday morning, after moving the family from one end of Cape St. Claire to the other, Gehring spotted a familiar looking feline. She called out to Fluffy, and he came running toward her, rubbing himself on  her legs. The family cat had returned, in a roundabout sort of way.

"He literally came right up to me," Gehring said. "So, he's been living on his own for a year and a half or so, I would guess."

Gehring woke the kids up, and told them she had a surprise for them in the basement. When they descended the stairs, the first child yelled "Fluffy!" and soon the whole family was in on the reunion.

"In hindsight, I really should have videoed it," Gehring said.
