Get Out: Enjoying The Great Outdoors

Tons of fun available this weekend in Broadneck - inside and out.

When/Where:  Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Broadneck High School.

Why Go:  Sponsored by the school’s environmental science club, activities include educational exhibits, vendors, free music, crafts, equipment swaps, and recycle bins for compact fluorescent light bulbs, used print cartridges and cell phones.

2)  Spring Bazaar at Cape UMC

When/Where: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cape St. Claire United Methodist Church.

Why Go:  A fun community event featuring a rummage sale, bake sale, silent auction, craft sale, face painting, and more.

Price:  Free. 

3)  Astronomy Day at AACC

When/Where:  Saturday, 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Planet Walk on the 4.7 mile section of Baltimore and Annapolis Trail with informal talks at planet stations by scientists, astronomers and members of local astronomy clubs.  At AACC, Dr. Jane Rigby of the Astrophysics Division, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, will present “How to Build a Galaxy” at 6 p.m. and Greg Redfern, Solar System Ambassador from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, presents “The Chesapeake Bay Impact Crater” at 7 p.m. At 8 p.m., community stargazing at the Anne Arundel Community College Arnold campus observatory, weather permitting, 101 College Parkway.

Why Go: This is the third annual event jointly sponsored by the Friends of Anne Arundel County Trails Inc., NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center and the AACC Astronomy Club, and features a day and evening of astronomy-themed activities, talks and stargazing.

Pricing:  Free.

4)  Bingo by the Bay at St. Andrew by the Bay

When/Where:  Saturday 6:30 to 9:30 p.m at the church, at the intersection of Cape St. Claire Rd. and E. College Parkway.

Why Go: There will be 20+ games for Eco-designer bags filled with $50 or more of goods and gift certificates. In addition, there will be three raffles one for a 32" HD LCD flatscreen TV, one for an Amazon Kindle, and one for a Dell Netbook computer & printer.

Pricing: Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door and can be purchased at the church office during the day, by e-mail at mooresandfour@verizon.net or by phone at 410 757-7478.

Family Fun Weekend Event

5) CTA's Night at the Wax Museum

When/Where:  Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. (also showing next weekend, same times) at the Children’s Theatre of Annapolis theater on Bay Head Road.

Why Go:  Presented by talented local students ages 8-12, this spinoff of the movie includes treasure-hungry outlaws, pirates and royalty.

Price: $15 for adults, $12 for kids 12 and under and seniors 60 and over. Special group rate of $12 for 20 or more attending on the same date, at the same time.
