Get Out: Runs, Cars, and Peace

A beautiful weekend on tap and lots of activities to keep Broadneck residents healthy and entertained.

1)  Fun Runs

Why Go:  Help Belvedere Elementary raise funds to purchase new technology in the classrooms. Be sure to check out the pasta dinner to load up on carbs the night before the race. 

Price:  $25 for age 12 and older, and $15 for age 11 and younger.

Why Go:  Enjoy a run through Cape St. Claire and help the local elementary school PTA. There will be prizes for all participants, and awards given out to top finishers in various categories.

Price: $20 for adults and $12 for ages 5 to 14.

2)  Broadneck and Severna Park High present Romeo & Juliet

When/Where:  Friday, Saturday at 7 p.m., Sunday at 2:30 p.m., Children’s Theatre of Annapolis.

Why Go: What better classic to showcase the first joint theatrical production from both Broadneck and Severna Park high schools? See Shakespeare in a modern light.

Price:  $10

3)  Broadneck Car Show 

When/Where:  Saturday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., Broadneck High School.

Why Go:  Car lovers are welcome to come out to the BHS Class of 2011 car show. Vendors will also be on hand with food and facepainting and a moon bounce for the kiddies.

Price:  $3, $15 to register (setup at 8:30 a.m.)

4)  Broadneck Baseball & Softball Bull & Oyster Roast

When/Where:  Saturday, 7 p.m., Severna Park Elks Lodge.

Why Go: The club’s major fundraiser for the 2011 season, the event features beef, oysters, soda and adult beverages, music, dancing, games, prizes and more.

Price:  $40 per person, $70 per couple

5)  Concert for Peace at AACC

When/Where:  Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m., Pascal Center for the Performing Arts, Anne Arundel Community College, Arnold Campus.

Why Go: The AACC Symphony Orchestra, AACC Concert Choir, AACC Chamber Singers, members of the Maryland State Boys Choir, and other guest artists, will perform William Walton’s “Crown Imperial/Coronation March,” John Rutter’s “The Falcon” and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Dona Nobis Pacem.”

Price:  $15 general admission; $10 students, AACC faculty and staff, senior citizens and groups; $5 students with valid AACC student ID.
