Moms Talk: Student Lunches and Nutrition

Jaime Oliver takes his fight for more nutritious school lunches to moms.

Last night my family and I watched Jamie Oliver's show called Food Revolution.  Jamie's goal is to change the way Americans eat starting with the lunches our children purchase from the schools.

He is often met with opposition in his quest to bring healthier foods to our schools for many reasons, including budget issues. Having been shut out, Jamie shifted his focus from the school board to moms.

In front of a crowd of moms, Jamie broguht to light many food issues that parents might not think about. Take milk for example. Most children who choose milk at school will choose flavored milk. Jamie demostrated the amount of added sugar a typical school consumes in one week just from drinking flavored milk.  The sugar filled an entire school bus and was seeping out of the windows. Jamie hopes that the parents will demand to know what is in their children's school lunches and how those lunches are being cooked.
