Ritchie Highway Repaving Slated to Start Tuesday

A road crew is scheduled to begin repaving a 5.5 mile stretch of Ritchie Highway from Arnold to Severna Park Tuesday night.

Travelers on Ritchie Highway have something to cheer about—repaving is scheduled to start Tuesday.

Contractors are scheduled to begin repaving a 5.5-mile section of the northbound roadway from US Route 50 to Robinson Road starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to Maryland Transportation Authority spokesman Charlie Gishlar.

A road crew began stripping the roadway in June, but the paving crew couldn't begin until another project along Ritchie, creating bio-retention swales, had erected concrete walls.

It has been at least 10 years since that patch of roadway has been repaved, Gishlar said.

The crew will work weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and the work is expected to be completed by the end of the month, weather permitting, Gishlar said.
