Some Reminders for our Expected Snowy Weather

Here are some tips for dealing with this continuing winter season.

As your humble editor writes this column on a wet Monday evening, the projected snowfall amounts range anywhere from 2”-8” but the snow has yet to begin. In hopes that the weathermen will be close to the mark, I thought I would provide some helpful links for the snow “situation” we have Tuesday morning.

Weather Forecast

Looks like the snow will taper off this morning, with the sun actually peeking out around noon. We might reach 32 degrees around 3 p.m. but it goes downhill after that. We gradually warm up 10 degrees each day of the week and hit over 50 on Friday, but another storm looms. Looks like rain this time though.

Environmentally Friendly Snow Removal Tips

Shoveling is obviously the most environmentally friendly snow removal process. If you need a quicker way to get sidewalks and driveways safe, instead of using salt (which is not only harmful to concrete but also to wildlife and plants) sand and kitty litter are more environmentally friendly options.

Shoveling Tips

Look, we all aren’t getting any younger. We have to realize that shoveling takes its toll on the body. Here are some tips for shoveling that we offered earlier this winter that provide good reminders before heading out with shovel in hand this morning.

Home Heating Tips

A while back, we offered some tips on saving on your heating bill while the cold weather continues. Here is a reminder of simple things you can do to ensure your heating bill is not a budget buster.

Fire Safety Tips

Snuggling up to a roaring fire is one of the best parts of the winter season. Fires also help keep main gathering areas warm so the heat pump or furnace is running overtime. But fireplace usage does pose a danger. Here are some fire safety tips from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department to avoid potential tragedy.
