Tropical Night at the Broadneck Cantina

Local residents usher out a sweltering July with a festive night at the Broadneck Cantina.

On a sweltering Sunday evening, Tropical Night at the Broadneck Cantina was a cool respite. Pilgrim and Trout's acoustic performance was the perfect backdrop, while drink specials on margaritas and Cruzan rum drinks helped provide festivity. Hawaiian shirts and vivid floral prints abounded, and the enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the mellow vibe as the band performed a mix of covers such as “If I had a Boat” by Lyle Lovett, and originals such as “Ego Alley.”

David Majerowicz and Greg Whipp, the original members of Pilgrim and Trout, have been performing together for 27 years. They have loyal followings in Maryland and the metropolitan DC area. They are as well-known for their playful banter with the audience as they are for their harmonies. The performance at the Cantina was no exception as they exchanged quips with the audience.

According to owner Donna Duran, this promotion has been very successful, and another Tropical Night will be held on Sunday, Aug 28. This is one of several diversified special events that the restaurant has added to its list in recent history. St. Patrick's Day is a crowd-pleaser, followed by a festive Cinco de Mayo celebration (complete with an outdoor tent), which is one of the community's favorite ways to kick off the spring and early summer season.

The seasonal wine pairing dinners have also been very well received and the Saturday night video DJ gives Broadneck residents a dance party on a Saturday night. While the restaurant has been a reliable favorite in the Cape for many years, these events are an opportunity to have fun without leaving the peninsula.
