Five Questions with an Annapolis Idol Contestant

Patch questions a Broadneck High School graduate, who has done the singing competition circuit, and will soon be performing at a local competition.

In March, two Broadneck-area singers will compete against 12 other hopefuls in the Annapolis Idol competition.

One of the singers is Ryan Connor, a Broadneck High School graduate. Patch caught up with him to ask a few questions about his singing career and what he thinks about this newest competition.

Broadneck Patch: Have you ever done anything like this before?
Ryan Connor: I’ve done American Idol four times, Nashville Star one, and X-Factor in April. I’m a bit of a veteran. In each show I was able to make it to the executive producer level, which is basically the round right before the judges. That means I was one of 250 from a pool of 25,000 people.

Broadneck Patch: How long have you been a performer or singer?
Connor: I had my first big performance in fifth grade, and ever since I’ve been doing all the local talent shows—at Magothy River Middle School and Broadneck High School—and then right after high school I started doing Idol.

Broadneck Patch: What do you think of the Annapolis Idol competition? Excited?
Connor: I think it’s nice because it’s benefiting a good cause. Everyone I’ve dealt with in it has been extremely nice. That’s refreshing because doing most of the Idol stuff, you aren’t really benefiting other people.

Broadneck Patch: What do you usually perform at these competitions?
Connor: My audition was for “Superstition” (by Stevie Wonder), but I’m really all over the map. I take lots of genres and spin it into my own thing.

Broadneck Patch: What do you hope to accomplish through the competition?
Connor: I really want to have that studio recording time. God willing, I can take that success and have it snowball into a career from there.
