Local Contest Winners Share Details of Hollywood Adventure

Corey and Jordan Kennedy tell Patch how they appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," met the stars of the new "Twilight" movie and worked the red carpet at the film's premiere.

“Hey, let's just try,” Jordan Kennedy told her sister, Corey, about entering a contest sponsored by The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “We aren't going to win, but what the heck."

Imagine the girls' surprise when the call came that they had won the contest. Jordan, 20, and Corey, 18, received the grand prize that included a trip to Los Angeles, an appearance on the talk show with the stars of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 and the opportunity to be correspondents on the red carpet at the movie’s premiere. Among the celebrities they met were Ellen DeGeneres, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

Both girls are graduates who are majoring in early childhood education in college. Currently, Jordan attends Towson University and Corey goes to Stevenson University.

For those who know the girls and want to hear all about their trip, they’ll be back home this week for Thanksgiving. They shared some of the details of their experience with Broadneck Patch.

Broadneck Patch: What did you put in the essay about being the biggest fan?

Jordan Kennedy: We wrote in the essay that we've been to every single Twilight midnight premiere … how for New Moon, we got to the movie theater 11 hours prior to the actual time so we could be first in line. They loved that we were huge fans but weren't creepy fans, which was really cool.

Corey Kennedy: We wrote about how Jordan first became a huge fan from reading the books, and since I don't like to read, she would tell me what would happen!

Broadneck Patch: How did it feel to be told you were going to LA to be on the show?

Jordan Kennedy: When we were told we were to pack our bags because we were headed to LA, I couldn't believe it. I never win anything, let alone such an enormous contest held by such a big figure. I was in shock basically, and I still can't believe it to this day.

Corey Kennedy: It was amazing! I could not stop shaking! Jordan and I actually had horrible red rashes on our necks after we got the call that we were the winners. We were in so much shock and nervous but extremely excited!

Broadneck Patch: What was the most exciting part of the trip?

Jordan Kennedy: That's hard to choose! If I had to though, it was the part where we got to be red carpet correspondents for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. I got to interview everyone in the movie, on the red carpet, with a legit Ellen microphone. Of course, meeting Ellen, the entire cast, and seeing the movie were unbelievable. But I would never have imagined that I would be doing something so fun, like interviewing celebrities on the red carpet.

Corey Kennedy: Easy—hugging Taylor, Kristen, Rob and, of course, Ellen! Thank goodness it was taped because I don't remember a thing! It was a blur.

Broadneck Patch: What did you think of the movie The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1?

Jordan Kennedy: This was the best one yet! The special effects are phenomenal. The director did an amazing job of sticking true to the book. I can't wait to see it again in theaters!

Corey Kennedy: It was absolutely amazing. The ending was unbelievable, I get chills just thinking about it! It went by way too fast.

Broadneck Patch: Team Jacob or Edward?

Jordan Kennedy: I'm with my sister and I've been Team Edward the whole time. New Moon definitely makes someone start to be Team Jacob, but eventually you get back to being Team Edward. Great books, best ones I've ever read!

Corey Kennedy: I love Jacob, but I have been faithful to Edward from the beginning!
