Big Vanilla Kicks Off Summer With a Splash

Big V's year-round pool encourages aquatic fun and fitness.

Big Vanilla kicked off their “Family Friday Swim” in style last Friday evening with a DJ, food, and pool activities.

While the event was for members only, members could bring guests to enjoy the festivities also. For a nominal fee of $10, a member can purchase a gift certificate that allows them to bring two guests to the pool to enjoy the “Family Friday Swim” and entitles each guest to a smoothie.

The “Family Friday Swim” is an event that Big Vanilla offers year-round, not just during the summer months.

The new addition to their pool, the Wibit, was brought out for this special event.  The Wibit is a floating obstacle course made up of hand holds to climb upon it, a hill to climb over, and a wide balance beam and vaulting area at the end. It is brought out for special occasions, summer camps and can be rented for private parties.

The multi-use pool ranges in depth from 3 ½ feet to 9 feet in the deep end.  During specific times of the day or during swim meets, lap lane dividers are available. Big Vanilla’s strong aquatics program includes therapeutic, recreational swimming, lessons, and fitness classes.

Michele Cipriano, one of the more senior members of the aquatics staff, describes her lifeguard and swim instructor job as one that she thoroughly enjoys.

“You get to see the little ones that you have taught to swim graduate into confident swimmers,” she said.

If you’re not a member of Big Vanilla, you may not realize that they have a year-round pool facility. During the winter months, the pool is covered by a huge bubble and the water is kept at 83 degrees Fahrenheit. From the last week in April through October, that protective dome is removed so that users may enjoy the hot summer months out in the open.

For those who want to check out the pool and other facets of the facility and find a yearly commitment is too great, Big Vanilla recently began offering month to month contracts as an alternative to their annual contracts.

Big Vanilla’s next upcoming events will be the Adult Pool Party scheduled for July 16, a 21 and over event, as well as the Back to School Splash in August.
