Cakes and Confections Bakery Cafe Opens on Ritchie Highway

The cafe offers seating at its new spot in Severna Park.

Sweet-toothed readers, rejoice. Cakes and Confections Bakery Cafe, which sated the macaroon cravings of customers in the Annapolis area for approximately 12 years, recently relocated its sweets and sandwich shop to Severna Park.

Cakes and Confections closed its operation in St. Margaret's and set up shop along Ritchie Highway in mid December. Nestled in a 1,2000-square-foot space in 1st Mariner Bank Square, the bakery cafe includes a seating area that can accommodate more than 30 people, co-owner Michael Brown said.

The old location didn't allow for seating, and the parking lot was a squeeze.

Already, Brown said, Cakes and Confections has seen an uptick in business, which he attributed to increased visibility and access.

"We're very pleased that folks like it," Brown said of the Severna Park setup. He noted that an unexpected benefit was being able to see customers enjoying what they ordered.

The cafe serves soups, sandwiches, paninis and wraps for lunch. Breakfast sandwiches, breads and pastries are also on the menu. An array of sweets is always available, of course, from cakes and muffins to croissants and macaroons.

Cakes and Confections Bakery Cafe is located at 342 Ritchie Highway. It's open from 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.
