The Point Crab House is Broadneck's Newest Seafood Destination

The new restaurant is expected to open by Labor Day.

Swing by in Arnold and you can see the final touches being placed on The Point Crab House and Grille—the newest restaurant in town.

Located in the former spot of Magothy Seafood, The Point was built from the ground up to be a new kind of restaurant experience, its owners said. It overlooks Mill Creek, and the garage-door style windows give patrons a perfect view of the water.

Bobby Jones, co-owner of the restaurant, said he hopes to hold the grand opening of The Point by Labor Day, with a soft opening scheduled a few days before that. He's already finalized the menu, which he said would consist of locally sourced, traditional Maryland food.

"The menu is inspired by food that we ate growing up around the bay," Jones said. "Like your grandmother's Fourth of July and Memorial Day parties."

Jones said when he's in North Carolina, he likes to get barbecue. When in Louisiana, Cajun food is on the menu. He said he hopes to make the kind of food that makes Maryland special.

"It's going to be honest, local food that is true to the region and the mid-Atlantic," he said.

In July, by the state for serving authentic Maryland blue crabs.

The space is designed to be comfortable—not pretentious, Jones said. When asked what makes The Point special, Jones said it will be the kind of restaurant that you and your friends can share a meal at several times a week, not just for special occasions.

"This will be a real neighborhood restaurant," he said.

More than 300 applicants jumped at the chance for employment at The Point after advertisements went out in July. Jones said they scheduled several sit-down interviews with candidates, and believes he has an excellent staff prepared for the opening in September.

Opening the restaurant will mark the end of the three-year road it took Jones to open The Point. He set out to start the work in April 2009, but a permitting-appeals process held up construction until February of this year.

Jones said it was a relief to finally begin the work, and is pleased there is already anticipation over the restaurant's opening. A posting on The Broadneck Patch's Facebook page garnered dozens of likes and comments.
