Bike Master Plan Meeting June 11 at Broadneck

Planners are looking for ways to support pedestrians and bikers across the county's urbanized areas.

A public hearing for a proposed pedestrian and bicycle master plan for the county will be hosted at Broadneck High School Tuesday, June 11, by a group of consultants.

Planners hope the bike plan will ultimately become part of the county's overall transportation functional master plan. A group of consultants have been studying the current deficiencies in transportation and continuity gaps within the county's network of paths and facilities.

The goal of the plan is to find ways to foster growth of "pedestrian and bicycle utilitarian trips, such as to work, school or shopping," according to a press release.

"In addition to enhanced pedestrian and bicycle travel, the broader planning initiative will incorporate analysis of opportunities to improve travel in the County’s major highway corridors (e.g. through transit, managed lanes, etc.); identify potential regulatory changes that may facilitate efficient use of rights of way for all travel modes; and evaluate strategies to relieve congestion at existing traffic bottlenecks," according to the release.

The study is expected to be completed within 18 months, and as it gets closer to completion, more public hearings will be scheduled, according to the press release.
