Broadneck Could See a Rare October Snow Storm

Forecasters predict a winter storm will bring cold temperatures, rain and even snow to Maryland this weekend.

The National Weather Service is warning of a large winter storm that will form along the I-95 corridor this weekend, and the Broadneck area could see a uniquely early snowfall.

Forecasters predict as much as a half-inch of snow could fall in this area overnight and into Saturday.

There is a 100 percent chance of precipitation, and temperatures will remain in the 30s through most of tomorrow. Overnight, the precipitation will come mostly in the form of rain, but forecaster said snow could fall throughout Saturday and into Sunday morning.

There is a Winter Storm Watch in effect in Northern Baltimore and Harford Counties. Foot’s Forecast reports that some areas of rural Maryland could see as much as 8 inches of snow.

Snow in Maryland in October is so rare that the National Weather Service does not list historical snowfall totals for the month.

The Maryland State Highway Administration said it does not expect snow to stick to roadways, but that it is clearing drains and loading trucks with salt and plows. The SHA said it is encouraging drivers to check their tire pressure, keep salt and kitty litter handy, and carry a small shovel in their cars.
