Broadneck Trail Phase 1 Completion Delayed Until July

Originally due for June, the completion of the first phase of the long-delayed Broadneck Peninsula Trail has been again delayed until July, a county spokeswoman said.

The trail, which began construction in August, was originally slated to be completed in January, but was delayed until summer due to complications in relocating existing utility lines owned by BGE, according to former Anne Arundel County spokesman Dave Abrams.

The one-month delay from June to July is due to holdovers in BGE completing their utility relocation, said county spokeswoman Tracie Reynolds, who called the current work 90 to 95 percent complete.

"The remaining work to be completed includes completion of signalization work, curb wall railing, concrete ramps, landings and sidewalk connections, signage, and landscaping," Reynolds wrote in an email to Patch on Thursday.

Phase 1 of the project includes the construction of a trail along College Parkway from Green Holly Drive to Bay Head Road. Future phases are still in the design stage, officials have said.

The full scope of the project is to create a 6.6-mile trail that will link Sandy Point State Park to the Baltimore and Annapolis Trail in Arnold. The trail will utilize right-of-way property along College Parkway and provide access to local elementary and middle schools and several community parks.
