Current Hurricane Irene Tracking Sets Broadneck in Storm’s Path

The Weather Channel tracking has Irene arriving Sunday morning as a Category I hurricane.

Today, The Weather Channel has increased the threat level from Hurricane Irene for the Northeast section of the U.S. The newest tracking models project that the main part of the storm will hit Maryland on Sunday morning as a Category I storm.

According to The Weather Channel website, Hurricane Irene will track from the southern Bahamas to the northern Bahamas Tuesday through early Friday morning.

The greatest probability of a U.S. landfall is in the Carolinas during the Friday night through Saturday timeframe, possibly as a major hurricane.

The Weather Channel website does stress to keep in mind that the average forecast track errors 4-5 days out are between 200 and 250 miles.

Expectations now are for Hurricane Irene to continue northward either along or inland over the Northeast U.S., where the threat level is low to medium for now. That will likely change depending on the exact track and intensity of Irene.
