Get Out: Jewelry, Blossoms and Music

The first weekend of spring brings unique possibilities for weekend excursions.

1)

When/Where: Friday, noon to 7 p.m., Severna Park Community Center, 623 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd.

Why Go:  The Partners In Care Boutique is hosting its Ninth Annual Jewelry Extravaganza, showcasing collections of estate and one-of-a-kind pieces in all price ranges. Local artisans and other vendors will also join the event.

Price:  Admission and parking are free.

2)  Entertainment at Griffin’s

When/Where:  Friday and Saturday, 8:30 p.m., Arnold Griffin’s Grill on Ritchie Hwy. in Arnold.

Why Go: This weekend’s live entertainment features Nautical Wheeler on Friday and The Shore Thing on Saturday. Nautical Wheeler describes their style as “Trop Rock” and island music (think Jimmy Buffett) but they also perform a variety of other styles from country to classic rock (Eagles/Crosby Stills Nash & Young, etc.).  The Shore Thing is scheduled to perform the best selection of classic rock, Buffet, blues, R&B, country and more.

Price:  No Cover.

3) Maryland Day PaddleFest

When/Where:  Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Annapolis Maritime Museum.

Why Go: Guests will view the latest in canoes, kayaks and gear, plus the newest boating safety equipment. The event is sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Annapolis Maritime Museum and Four Rivers: the Heritage Area of Annapolis, London Town & South County.

Price:  Free.

4)  Creating Communities Musical Fundraiser

When/Where:  Saturday, 4 p.m., .

Why Go: LifeSongs Community Choir will present a spring concert of songs from around the corner and around the world. The 25- oice choir, led by musician/vocalist Elizabeth Melvin, sings an uplifting repertoire of South African freedom songs, Irish blessing songs, meditative chant, old time gospel and more. Also on the program will be Melvin's vocal duo The Gratitones with singer/percussive dancer Eileen Carson of Footworks, multicultural vocalist Lauren Kelly-Washington, and The Rob Levit Duo featuring bassist Amy Shook.

Price: $12 for adults and $5 for students up to age 18 and can be purchased at the door.

5)  National Cherry Blossom Festival Official Kickoff

When/Where:  Saturday, 4 to 5 p.m., National Building Museum, 401 F Street, NW, in Washington, DC. The annual Kite Festival will be held on Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go:  This official kickoff to the festival, immediately following Family Day, this event features classic and contemporary performances and Washington dignitaries welcome visitors to the 16-day, citywide spring celebration.

Price:  Free.
