Letter to Editor: Local Drivers Should Slow Down on Shore Acres

Editor's Note:  This letter was sent to us this morning and was meant for the entire community.

Late Sunday night, several minutes before the anniversary of our country's independence, a terrible accident occurred on Shore Acres Road, between Forked Creek Road and Four Acres Court. 

It happened just behind my yard. Perhaps you know that narrow stretch of road, and will agree that any number of factors (e.g. curves, elevation changes, speed, distractions, fatigue, alcohol, etc.) can very well lead to serious consequences there, as well as anywhere you drive. 

Both vehicles were totaled ... the BMW's front end was totally crushed (the passenger compartment remained intact), and the SUV spun and flipped onto its top, spewing wreckage and contents all over the road.

By the grace of God, both drivers and a passenger in the SUV were walking and talking soon after. But that fact does not reduce the seriousness of what happened. But what did happen? We don't really know, as both drivers evidently claimed the other crossed the center line. 

The main reason for this note is to remind people who drive that dangerous stretch, not only should they heed the posted warning signs (including the flashing speed indicators) for their own safety, but perhaps more important, they should be ever alert to what oncoming traffic is doing. 

Shore Acres Road Drivers: Please slow down and drive defensively because the next time, someone might not be as lucky!
