Man Drowns While Boating on Magothy During Fourth of July

Authorities said they are investigating the possibility of alcohol being a factor in the incident.

A 24-year-old man apparently drowned while boating on the Magothy River on Thursday, authorities said.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Chief Keith Swindle said the victim was on a boat with at least seven others when he struck the water and did not surface.

Authorities arrived at 1067 Shore Acres Road just after 6 p.m. and were working with the Maryland State Police through the evening to locate the man's body.

Swindle told The Capital Gazette that authorities are investigating the possibility of alcohol being a factor in the incident.
