1. Broadneck Teacher Charged with 'Sexting' with Student
An English teacher at Broadneck High School has been arrested and charged with exchanging sexually explicit text messages and images with a student. Erin Nicole Thorne, 28, of the 700 block of Rusack Court in Arnold, was charged with displaying obscene material to a minor and felony solicitation of child pornography. A statement from police said the minor involved graduated from the school in 2011, and is now an adult.
2. Bay Hills Parking Gets Revamp in New Plan
The shopping center along College Parkway would get a total of seven additional parking spots along storefronts in an overhaul of the site's parking plan from the site's owners, which incorporates the new proposed Rite-Aid building. The Broadneck Development Corporation, which owns the College Parkway Center, formerly known as the Bay Hills Shopping Center, has contracted an engineering team to design a new layout for the center.
3. Local Rev. 'Wowed' by New Pope Election
The election of Jorge Mario Bergoglio as the 266th Pope filled Rev. Jeffrey Dauses with joy and a sense of optimism for the Catholic Church, he said. Dauses is the pastor at St. Andrew by the Bay Parish in Broadneck, and Patch caught up with him just moments after Bergoglio was announced as the new pontiff.
"Wow," Dauses said. "It's so unanticipated. Everybody who heard him and his first words as Pope had a sense of incredible joy and hope for future of the church."
4. Broadneck History Book In Its Final Stages
Where did Arnold get its name? Who were the principal personalities associated with Broadneck's origins? When was Cape St. Claire founded? These questions and more are part of an upcoming history book written by local historian Alberta Stornetta, titled Arnold, Maryland and Neighbors on the Broadneck.
5. Editor Charged With Soliciting Minor in Police Sting
An Arnold resident was charged with solicitation of a minor, after he was caught requesting sexual favors from an officer posing as a 14-year-old girl online. George “Nick” Lundskow, 55, of South Viking Drive in Arnold, is charged by Pennsylvania authorities with unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, statutory sexual assault and other related charges.
