Weather Service Warns of Snow Thursday

The National Weather Service said as much as five inches of snow could come late in the day.

Get ready for some snow on Thursday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm watch for Anne Arundel County and much of the Baltimore and Washington, DC, region and forecasts a possible five—or more—inches of snow.

According to Weather.com, Arnold and Cape St. Claire could experience snow showers on Thursday, with temps in the low 30s. But expect a turnaround over the weekend, with highs in the upper 40s.

A winter storm watch means there is the potential for significant snowfall, as opposed to a warning, which indicates a storm is imminent.

Precipitation will begin as a mix of snow and rain Thursday morning, changing to snow later in the morning and through the afternoon, according to the watch.

"Snow may be heavy at times during the afternoon and evening," according to the storm watch, which means the evening commute might be affected.

In addition to snow, NWS is forecasting winds gusting as fast as 20 mph and temperatures in the low-to-mid 30s.

Foot's Forecast described the incoming weather system as "tricky" to predict, but also said snow could come after noon on Thursday, continuing until about midnight. The service indicated that the highest snowfall totals would be in the extreme southern portions of Maryland, with the Baltimore and Washington, DC area receiving about 1-2 inches.
