BHS Broadway Revue

Due to school closing last week, the Broadneck High School Music Department has rescheduled their annual Broadway Revue show that will now take place on Friday, Nov. 9, 7 p.m., in the school’s auditorium. There is no cost for entry, but donations will be accepted.

The show has been a fall tradition for many years and is entirely student run. Directors, who are chosen seniors by BHS Chorus Director Valerie Bennett, conduct the auditions, choose the numbers to perform, and direct and choreograph them. This year’s student directors are Abigail Coale, Kathleen Cooley, Katie Herold, Anna Tayman, and Shelby Woodfin.

At rehearsal last week, Coale was giving final notes to performers before a run through. “We chose ‘The Gospel Truth’ because it was from a Disney musical, and it was fun and upbeat,” she said during a break.  “The performers love it, and I think the audience will, too.”

Sophomore Skyler Todd said that though he had never done musical theater before he still decided to give the show a try. “I am definitely learning to do things I have never tried,” said Todd. “I’ve discovered that it is really fun and has been a great way to get to know new people.”

The performance will include numbers from Broadway shows like “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “A Chorus Line,” “Hairspray,” and “American Idiot,” as well as other popular virtual musicals such as “Doctor Horrible’s Sing-along Blog” and “A Very Potter Sequel.”
