The Importance of Being Wild (Quartet Concert)

Join
us for an evening of music and conversation with The Wild, a string
quartet including St. Martin's own Nick Drumm. The evening will include a concert of
works for string quartet by Joseph Haydn, Astor Piazzolla, Arnold Bax, and a
bit of Danish folk music. Nick currently resides in Miami, Florida and performs
with The Wild throughout South Florida. The group was founded with the mission
of bringing chamber music to new audiences and new places, striving to create
an intimate atmosphere where audiences can interact with the musicians, learn,
and experience classical music in a welcoming environment. (Free-will offering.)

Greg Abrell plays
violin alongside Nick, Robyn Savitzky plays viola, and Joy Adams plays cello. Collectively,
the group’s members have studied at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana
University, New York University, the Eastman School of Music, the Longy School
of Music, and the University of Miami, where three members are teaching
assistants.

The Wild is visiting St. Martin’s as part of a mini-tour
including Annapolis and the Boston area, where the group will be attending
LyricaFest, a chamber music gathering and instructional seminar/conference. Festivals
such as LyricaFest serve to further the professional aspirations of groups like
The Wild, where they can work with
teachers and colleagues to share and learn techniques for working together,
presenting music to audiences, creating innovative and enticing program ideas,
and communicating with audiences.
