Kites Will Soar at Broadneck Park

Bring your kite and a picnic lunch to the park on Saturday for an afternoon of high-flying fun.

The first-ever Broadneck Kite Festival is scheduled for Saturday at noon, and event organizer Kara McGuirk-Allison said she's hoping thunderstorms don't scare away any attendees.

As of Wednesday afternoon, The Weather Channel was forecasting a 30-percent chance of rain Saturday with isolated thunderstorms.

"I am selfishly hoping the much-needed rain holds off until Sunday," McGuirk-Allison said. "Hopefully, we'll have some great sunshine and strong wind."

There will also be a kite raffle, kites for sale, Italian Ice by of Cape St. Claire, and juices from Lifestyle Liquids, so the whole family is encouraged to come.
