Half-Marathon Prompts Road Closures Around Annapolis

The is coming to the city Saturday and officials are advising residents to be aware of street closures and to be prepared for traffic delays.

The race begins at 7 a.m. Saturday at the , continues through downtown and West Annapolis and then into Broadneck, finishing back at the stadium. A full course map can be viewed on the event website.

According to the race website, the event was founded to help out organizations and nonprofits in the Annapolis area—many that lost funding due to budget cuts.

Rhonda Wardlaw, spokeswoman for the city of Annapolis, said the following road closures will be in effect Saturday morning.

Stadium Area (7-7:30 a.m.; reopened for 30 minutes; closed 8-9:45 a.m.)

• Taylor Avenue between Rowe Boulevard and Cedar Park Road will be closed to traffic.
• Cedar Park Road between Taylor Avenue and Farragut Road will be closed to traffic.
• Farragut Road and Rowe Boulevard will be closed to traffic.
• Herbert M. Sachs Boulevard will be closed to traffic.

According to the release, once all runners have left the stadium at the beginning of the race, traffic will be allowed in and out of Rowe Boulevard through a detour around the stadium. Police will be directing traffic at the Rowe intersections (Farragut Road and Rowe Boulevard and Herbert Sachs and Rowe Boulevard).

Downtown Area (7:10-8:30 a.m.) 

• Rowe Boulevard between Taylor and College avenues, inbound (SE bound) lanes closed to traffic between 7:10 and 7:25 a.m. on a rolling basis.
• Rowe Boulevard and Taylor Avenue, inbound lanes closed to traffic.
• College Avenue from Church Circle to Hanover Street will be closed to traffic.
• Church Circle from south portion of circle between College Avenue and Main Street will be closed to traffic on a rolling basis; southern portion of circle remains open to traffic.
• Main Street will be closed to traffic.
• Main and Randall Streets to King George Street will have the right lane open to U.S. Naval Academy Gate 1 traffic only.
• King George Street between Randall Street and Baltimore Boulevard will be closed to traffic.
• Maryland Avenue between King George and State Circle will be closed to traffic.
• State Circle will be closed to traffic.
• North Street will be closed to traffic.
• College Avenue to Hanover Street will be closed to traffic.  
• Hanover to Wagner streets to King George Street will be closed to traffic.

Naval Academy Bridge (7:30-9:45 a.m.)

• Route 450 (Baltimore Boulevard) at King George Street will be closed to traffic.
• Baltimore Boulevard at Bowyer Road will be closed to traffic.
• Baltimore Boulevard at Sellers Road will be closed to traffic.
• Baltimore Boulevard at Longshaw Road will be closed to traffic.
• Route 450 Naval Academy Bridge, right lane (northbound) open to U.S. Naval Academy, Gate 8 traffic only.

Ritchie Highway (7:25-9:45 a.m.)

• Ritchie Highway between the Naval Academy Bridge and Severn Ridge Road southbound lanes 7:25-10:30 a.m.; southbound traffic detours to Severn Ridge Way to Route 648 south.
• Ritchie Highway between Severn Ridge Road and Boulter’s Way—Shoulder and left lane closed to traffic; right lane open to traffic until detour at Severn Ridge.

According to the release from the city, participants will be required to use sidewalks and abide by pedestrian rules in the city 18 minutes after the final start group. Apart from downtown Annapolis, all roads will reopen by 9:45 a.m, Wardlaw said in the release. Police and race monitors will be present along the course.
