Obituary for James C. Monaghan Jr.

A longtime deacon at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church recently passed away.

James Carl Monaghan Jr., 69, of Annapolis, died suddenly at Laurel Regional Hospital.

He was born in Baltimore and raised in Riviera Beach and has been a resident of Annapolis for the past 50 years.

He married Marlene Miller Monaghan on May 4, 1963.

Jim was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church in 1979 and served as pastoral associate at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid fisherman and a skilled craftsman in woodworking. Jim was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and James Carl Monaghan Sr.

Jim is survived by his wife Marlene Monaghan, children; Michele and Karman Amin, Kelly and Larry Shipman and Eric and Peg Monaghan, grandchildren; Ryan, Haley, Andrew, Karl, Joseph and Cassy, great-granddaughter; Jocelyn, sister; Martha Monaghan and brother; Patrick Monaghan.

Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 2-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church on Friday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew by the Bay Bereavement Ministry, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409.
