Obituary for William Patterson Wardlaw

Dr. William Patterson Wardlaw, 76, of Arnold, MD, died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Born in Los Angeles, CA on March 3, 1936, Bill attended Rice University and UCLA, where he received a PhD in Mathematics. He served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy. He was a professor of mathematics at University of Georgia from 1966 to 1972 and a professor emeritus of mathematics at the US Naval Academy from 1972 to 2008. A loving husband, devoted father, and caring grandfather; he enjoyed hiking in the mountains of Montreat, NC and was active with Boy Scout Troop 450 in Severna Park.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Hansi, of almost 50 years; 4 children; Kenneth P. Wardlaw (and his wife, Lisa), Heidi W. Denlinger (and her husband, Scott), Kathleen E. Wardlaw, and William A. Wardlaw; and four grandchildren; Sarah E. Denlinger, Emma M. Denlinger, Kate E. Wardlaw, and Patterson L. Wardlaw.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 3pm.
