Arnold Man Linked to Crash Involving Pedestrians on Ritchie Highway

Police said two teens were struck while trying to cross the road, reportedly not using the crosswalk and wearing dark clothing.

Police reported that two teens were struck by a car driven by an Arnold man on Ritchie Highway near the in Severna Park, where a was in progress Tuesday night.

William Keith Goldman, 49, of Arnold, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on Ritchie Highway near Earleigh Heights Road when two pedestrians tried to cross—reportedly not using the crosswalk and wearing dark clothing, according to a release from police.

"There is no indication that the driver left the scene and no indication that any charges are pending against the driver," said Justin Mulcahy, spokesman for Anne Arundel County Police in an email.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash on the part of the driver, according to the police release.

Police reported a 17-year-old girl from Pasadena is listed in critical condition and Sean Snyder, 19, of Severna Park is listed in serious but stable condition.

The incident occurred around 8:43 p.m. Tuesday and a state police helicopter flew the teens to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman Chief Michael Cox.

Both sides of Ritchie Highway were shut down Tuesday night at West Earleigh Heights Road as the fire department worked the scene. Two helicopters landed on the southbound side of the closed highway to transport the injured people.

Onlookers at the Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company carnival gathered on the side of the highway in front of the fire station, while a small group of young people sat in the median strip talking to a firefighter.

Police will continue to investigate the incident.
