Detectives of the Anne Arundel County Police Department said they do not consider the assault on a boy near a playground on Shore Acres Road on Friday to be part of an attempted abduction.
Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said the most recent information from detectives indicates nothing to substantiate claims of an attempted abduction or kidnapping. Initial information contained in the official police report called the incident "a possible attempted abduction/kidnapping."
"Detectives are treating this as an assault, and we're attempting to verify the facts," Mulcahy said. "Detectives are conducting follow-up interviews to verify what was said in the initial patrol report of the incident."
The initial report issued by patrol officers says a 10-year-old boy was walking home from the community playground near Bay Hills Apartments on Friday when a man wearing a black ski mask grabbed him on his arm, which led to an assault. The boy kicked the man in the face and the man fled, according to the report.
Police swept the area with K-9 units, but did not locate the suspect. However, a description of him was released to the media on Monday. Authorities are looking for a white male, 19-23 years old, with chin-length dark hair.
The boy was not injured in the assault, and did not require medical attention.
