Bicyclist on Life Support After Being Hit Near Edgewater Bridge

Bicyclist Lynn Kristianson of Arlington, VA, was hit last month by an SUV driver who fled the Edgewater accident scene. She remains on life support.

Bicyclist Lynn Kristianson of Arlington, VA, who was hit by an SUV last month near the Patuxent River Bridge in Edgewater, remains on life support, say her friends.

"To have this happen is devastating. ... It's devastating for our whole cycling community," friend and fellow cyclist Maile Neel told WJLA TV.

A Honda sport utility vehicle traveling westbound on Central Avenue in Davidsonville near the bridge struck Kristianson, 62, and Neel, 52, of University Park, while they were riding single file on Feb. 22. The SUV failed to stop and continued west on Central Avenue into Prince George’s County.

"The next thing I knew, I was being hit -- then I was on the ground and couldn't move," Neel told the TV station. "He hit me first, a glancing blow, knocked me over...but must have driven right into Lynn -- and then he kept driving."

She said Kristianson remains in very critical condition at an area hospital.

Witnesses said the suspect’s SUV was driven by a white man, 50 to 60 years old, with a gray mustache and dark glasses. Police believe the suspect vehicle is a 1995 to 2001 Honda CR-V with damage on the right side, and a missing right-side mirror.

The reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the SUV driver who fled into Prince George’s County has increased to $10,000 with the help of Kristianson’s friends and family.

Friends have set up a website to raise reward money, hoping that it will prompt someone to reveal what they know: youcaring.com/forlynn
