Bridge Jumper was 'Young Adult,' Spokesman Says

The condition of the unidentified person who jumped off of the Bay Bridge is unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.

on Monday was described by a fire department spokesman as a young adult, in his late teens or early 20s.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department (AACFD) spokesman Lt. Keith Hamilton told Patch Tuesday morning that the department helped assist in the rescue of the unidentified man. 

Hamilton said he could not specify the individual's name or exact age, but described him as a young adult.

The man had parked his car in a closed eastbound lane near the top of the bridge, more than 180 feet over the Chesapeake Bay. A witness to the incident told The Baltimore Sun that the man, "didn't appear to show any emotion," as he jumped from the bridge.

The man's body was first found in the water by a passing boat. Emergency officials were contacted, and AACFD transported the man to Sandy Point State Park, Hamilton said. State police helicopters then transported him to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The man was alive when he was transported, according to Maryland Natural Resource Police Sgt. Brian Albert. His condition was unknown as of Tuesday.
