Detectives Call Juvenile Assault Incident 'Unfounded'
The reported incident sent a rallying cry for vigilance throughout Broadneck, but it is now believed to be based on false information, detectives say.
Police are now saying the report of an assault on a 10-year-old boy Friday was based on unfounded information.
When the call first came in to police on Friday, it was reported as an attempted abduction of a 10-year-old by a 19- to 23-year-old male, according to a police report obtained by Patch. But by Monday, Anne Arundel County detectives were calling the incident an assault. Now, police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said detectives have concluded the incident was based on false information.
"Through further investigation, consisting of additional interviews, detectives have determined the reported incident to be unfounded," Mulcahy said in a statement issued Thursday.

The shocking incident sent a rallying cry through Broadneck for parents to be more vigilant with their children, evident on social media websites like Facebook and Twitter and in Patch's own interviews with community members. A self-defense class for children through Jing Ying was organized in light of the reported assault.
